The Importance of Weight Loss

The positive news is, losing even a modest amount of weight can result in significant health outcomes, but we know this can be difficult.
As always losing weight starts with having a healthy and balanced diet, an active lifestyle and adequate quantity and quality of sleep (see here for NHS living well tips). However, sometimes this is not enough, and you may need a helping hand.
The new weight loss injections (aka fat loss injections or the ‘skinny’ jab) which have been licensed and approved by the MHRA can give you a kickstart to help you get fitter, quicker.

Mounjaro and Wegovy Weight Loss Injections
Mounjaro and Wegovy weight loss injections (aka ‘skinny jabs’ or ‘fat loss injections’) contain a drug that mimics hormones in your body that suppress your appetite. These weight loss injections cause you to eat less, which reduces your calorie intake which helps you to lose weight. Both are once-weekly injections.
However, at Hollowoods, we don’t just want you to lose weight, but keep it off and get healthier in the process. Our trained practitioners will therefore work with you to develop a personalised health plan that will aid you to make lifestyle changes which include:
- Having a healthy and balanced diet
- Maintaining good sleep hygiene
- Keeping active
- Quitting smoking
- Not drinking alcohol in excess

There are some key differences between the weight loss injections which are highlighted in the table below. This is why it is crucial to have a private consultation with one of our healthcare professionals who can talk you through the effectiveness and side effects of the fat loss injections (aka ‘skinny jabs’) and empower you to choose the right option. Saxenda is not offered.
You will have no online questionnaires to fill and will be supported by our trained team throughout the programme.
Both Mounjaro and Wegovy fat loss injections (aka weight loss injections or ‘skinny jabs’) are ‘licensed’ for aiding weight loss. This means that they have been rigorously tested and approved to be safe and effective for aiding weight loss in suitable patients. Furthermore, this study has tracked semaglutide users for 2 years and shown significant weight loss with just mild-moderate stomach upset
Like any medicine, they both come with their risks and potential side effects. If you get side effects, these are normally mild and go within a few weeks of treatment. These include heartburn, fatigue and dizziness. More serious ones to look out for are lumps developing on the neck near the thyroid gland (suggestive of thyroid cancer) and severe stomach pain radiating to the back which may indicate acute pancreatitis. If you have a history of mental health problems, then this treatment may not be for you.
It is also critical to attend your regular follow up appointments with your healthcare professional and to read the Hollowoods brochure and patient information leaflets which can be found here for Mounjaro and Wegovy. You will have access to you pharmacist throughout the programme for advice. To help reduce the effect of side effects:
- inject yourself at the same day and time each week
- keep sipping water regularly to stay hydrated
- eat plenty of fibre if you get constipated, this can include fruits, legumes and starchy vegetables
- if appropriate, take paracetamol for any headaches you experience
Ensure you also store the injections correctly – in a fridge between 2°C-8°C – and that you keep the cap on the pen to protect it from light. If the pen has been frozen or temperatures above 30°C, then dispose of the pen in your sharps bin.

Use the injection ONCE WEEKLY, at any time each day. You will self inject using the pre-filled pen typically in the stomach or thigh as these sites have the most fat and help absorption of the pen. Your trained Hollowood pharmacist will guide you with where is best.

Pricing
The price includes a £15 consultation fee, 1 complimentary sharps bin (including its disposal) and 100 hypodermic needles (4mm/32g) for Mounjaro (Wegovy comes with its own needles).
